The McKearn Summer Research Fellows Program at Northern Illinois University is a distinctive summer academic enrichment and professional development program that includes three modules: (1) research/artistry design and effective writing skills; (2) leadership development; and, (3) civic, social and global engagement.
McKearn Fellows Program Objectives:
Leadership and Learning:
(1) Students will develop and understand their personal leadership and learning styles, assessing their strengths and weaknesses.
Research and Creative Problem-Solving:
(2) Students will create their own independent research projects, learning how to present different aspects of their research problems and processes to different audiences through a culminating showcase/conference at the end of the program.
Civic Education:
(3) Students will be able to assess the potential and real impacts or implications of their projects and those of their peers on communities at various levels of civic organization.
